In conjunction with the IUPUI Common Theme, Go Green, IUPUI! and the Student Activities Programming Board are teaming up to bring to campus a Sustainability Film Series. We will be showing the first of these five films, Heat, this Tuesday (Sept. 15th)! Heat is an investigation into one of the greatest crises mankind has ever faced — global warming. Screenings will be held at noon in CE 307 and at 6 pm in CE 309. We hope to see you there!

The average college student carries more than just a laptop with them. In your backpack could be anywhere from just one to more than five textbooks. Not only do these burden students by costing them hundreds of dollars per semester, but all of these books are hurting the environment. The production of these textbooks requires the cutting down of trees, transport of the trees, paper, and books, and the use of toxic inks. More often than not, these books aren’t reusable because of new editions constantly being published.
Textbook Takeover is an effort by IUPUI students to encourage the use of electronic readers, such as the Amazon Kindle, rather than bulky paper textbooks. These readers provide a huge amount of benefits, and the costs are reasonable. In a world where you can read CNN on your iPhone on the bus, why can’t we study for our courses by just pulling out our e-reader?
It’s an effort that has a long way to go. But to start, sign the petition at Textbook Takeover, and be sure to show your support for our environment and your backpack.

After three long months of preparations, I am proud to announce the launch of Go Green, IUPUI!
Our organization was founded in March 2009 with a simple belief in mind: As a thriving university, we – the students, faculty, and staff of IUPUI – have a responsibility to ourselves and future generations to focus on improving the sustainability of our campus environment. Each and every one of us must take steps to minimize the impact that we have on our surroundings. We must make an unrelenting effort to pioneer new practices and enhance old ones to make IUPUI a green place to learn, work, and live. Advocacy and education are the means to this end.
We call on all members of the IUPUI community to help us build a grassroots movement dedicated to making our campus more sustainable. Membership is open to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni – and it will be easy to get involved. Numerous events are being planned for the upcoming school year, including speakers, forums, and service projects. Committed members will discover many ways of affecting positive change on campus through our organization.
So, what are you waiting for? Join Go Green, IUPUI! today and let us make our campus more sustainable together!
